Twins, Triplets & More Week 2010 (28 June - 4 July)

GET READY FOR MULTIPLES!

‘GET READY FOR MULTIPLES!’ is an important new initiative, which seeks to prepare new and expecting parents for the challenges of having a multiple births and protect mothers against the heightened risk of Post Natal Depression (PND).

At present nearly one in five mothers of multiple births develop PND - that is almost double the number of mothers of singletons who experience this desperately debilitating condition. Until now, just one in three mothers have had access to specific parent education on having a multiple birth, which is really worrying as research shows that lack of access to such classes increases their chances of developing PND.

The  ‘GET READY FOR MULTIPLES!’ initiative is designed to empower families and their health professionals and give them the know-how to really enjoy having a multiple birth. Just click on the following links to find out how we can help you:

• FREE and subsidised pre-natal Practical Preparing for Parenthood Survival Classes with Dr Carol Cooper around the UK;

• Day-long Multiple Pregnancy Antenatal Courses, in England;

• A FREE practical guide to download for mothers who are finding life hard following the birth of their babies, and may have Post Natal Depression;

• The freephone Twinline - 0800 138 0509 - which offers information and emotional support for parents and professionals.

Tamba is dedicated to supporting twins and multiple births – and their families – from pregnancy through to adulthood, as well as those involved in the care of multiple births. In addition to advice, support, and a community, we also work to secure members benefits and discounts to help with the added expenses that come with having a multiple birth. You can find out more about the benefits of membership here.

What Parents of Multiples Say:

"All my needs were met – feeling more excited now and bit less nervous."  Course attendee, Finchley, April 2010

"It’s made me feel more confident about the coming months." Course attendee Guildford, February 2010

Mother of triplets, Maggie Couston, also a Clinical Psychologist, contributed to the guide on Post Natal Depression. She said:

"I wish GET READY FOR MULTIPLES! had been around when I was expecting my triplets. My children bring me immense joy, but in the months after they were born I often felt overwhelmed and not good enough. At times I thought the babies' needs would be better met by me leaving or ending it all.

"I hope that mothers who might be struggling and feeling isolated will read the free Post Natal Depression guide, which will help to give them back control as a parent to make informed decisions, access support, and most importantly be able to really enjoy time with their babies.”
