Fundraising Superstars Take on Rough Runner for Tamba

20th January 2017

Twin mum Suzanne, her husband and two friends, also parents of twins, decided to take on the Rough Runner endurance run and raise money for Tamba.  Rough Runner is the “fun outdoor obstacle race inspired by the great game shows like Takeshi’s Castle and Total Wipeout”.  There are 5K, 10K and 15K routes.  Susie, Tommy, Lizzie and Craig went for the 10K which included about 20 obstacles, or “Gladiators/It's a Knock Out/craziness” as Susie describes it on her JustGiving page.

The challenges had already begun in the run up to the event, with some unexpected childcare hoops to jump through, which many parents will no doubt sympathise with.  Due to some completely unintentional double bookings, the night before they found themselves not only without a babysitter but with an extra guest – Susie’s parents’ dog!  A solution presented itself: Lizzie was unfortunately under doctor’s orders not to take part, Susie told us, and instead Lizzie “found herself looking after three kids, a dog, walking miles round the course and taking fab photos and video for us. (The actual competition would probably have been easier than that!)”

After the challenges of getting there, it sounds like they had a huge amount of fun – just take a look at this video clip of Susie trying to get to the top of the tricky ‘Travelator’.  It looks tough but brilliant fun too. Well done ‘Team Susie’ and thank you for supporting Tamba.  You are superstars!

If you feel inspired to have a go at a challenge event on behalf of Tamba, please get in touch.

We have lots of exciting events lined up for 2017.  Sign up to one of our runs – the British10K on 9 July in the centre of London, the Great North Run on 10 September, the famous half marathon in Newcastle, or 10 miles on the seafront with the Great South Run in October.  If cycling is more your thing, put your name down for a RideLondon-Surrey cycle on 9 July. We can help with getting registered and setting up a fundraising website, so you can focus on training, gathering support, trying on your Tamba T-shirt and enjoying the experience.

You don’t have to scale mountains or compete in epic challenges to help Tamba – we also have ideas for some less adrenalin-filled fundraising events to get you started.
