Saving lives, supporting families

Tamba's Volunteer Day 2019

9th April 2019

In March Twinline listeners, befrienders from our Bereavement Support Group (BSG), breastfeeding peer supporters, Honorary Consultants and course leaders, joined us at our annual volunteering day in London where we celebrated all things multiple!

It was a chance for Tamba staff to pay tribute to everyone’s passion and hard work and allowed us to present awards to those giving many years of voluntary service.

More than 50 Tamba volunteers from across the country came along, meeting other volunteers, sharing stories and listening to the talks we had planned during the day.

During the morning, volunteers heard from Claire Burgess, Honorary Consultant for Tamba, Director and Family Consultant at Bespoke Family and volunteer support practitioner for Tamba about attachment and bonding, and there was a presentation from the Maternity Engagement Team about this pioneering project which is saving babies’ lives.

Everyone was fascinated to hear from our founder and President Judi Linney MBE about how Tamba started 40 years ago. What struck the room about her talk was that Tamba grew from a real need within the twin and multiple birth community. There was nothing like it, and still isn’t!

We’re so proud to have reached 40 years and we all enjoyed a piece of anniversary cake made by Gemma, the sister of one of our trustee’s, Simon Berney-Edwards. Simon gave a fascinating talk during the afternoon about his surrogacy journey.
