Tamba Northern Ireland Health Visiting Service

Tamba health visiting service in Northern Ireland

The Tamba Health Visiting Service is the first of its kind in the UK and it is being piloted in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland. This service is in addition to the core health visiting service.

The Health Visitor, Shona O'Hanlon, is specifically trained to provide support to families with twins, triplets or more. Shona can support multiple birth families in the following areas:

  • Breast Feeding SupportA health visitor visiting twins and family at home

  • Growth and Weight Gain

  • Antenatal advice on what to expect if twins need neonatal care

  • Advice on coping with premature multiples and normal development

  • Encouraging individuality

  • Coping with behaviour at the different stages of development

  • Starting school

  • Managing sleep and establishing routines

Accessing the service

Parents can refer themselves or they can be referred by any health professional involved in their care. If you would like to make a referral or find out more information, please email

Shona will make contact with the family by telephone and discuss their concerns and if needed will carry out a home visit with the family. Shona will also support any health professionals involved in their care.
