The Tamba Health Visiting Service is the first of its kind in the UK and it is being piloted in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland. This service is in addition to the core health visiting service.
The Health Visitor, Camel Hamil, is specifically trained to provide support to families with twins, triplets or more. Carmel can support multiple birth families in the following areas:
Breast Feeding Support
Growth and Weight Gain
Antenatal advice on what to expect if twins need neonatal care
Advice on coping with premature multiples and normal development
Coping with behaviour at the different stages of development
Managing sleep and establishing routines
Accessing the service
Parents can refer themselves or they can be referred by any health professional involved in their care. If you would like to make a referral or find out more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Carmel will make contact with the family by telephone and discuss their concerns and if needed will carry out a home visit with the family. Carmel will also support any health professionals involved in their care.
Going forward we plan to offer infant massage which will be delivered by Carmel who is an infant massage instructor. This will have many benefits. Parents will learn the lifelong skill of infant massage and also have the opportunity to meet other parents in a similar situation, form friendships, share concerns and celebrate memorable moments. More information on this service will be published soon.
